Tips & Tricks to Tax Filing 2009

File Your Own Taxes

Filing your own individual tax form used to be intimidating, but today e-filing has made it as easy as completing an online response form. Ask anyone who's used TurboTax, Quicken, or other super user-friendly tax e-filing programs.

Especially designed for the personal tax novice, they basically sit you down and ask you how much you earned last year and how much you spent. Then they take you step by step through the process. There is no confusing fine print to read, or long schedules to look up and, if at any point you still feel lost - simply hit the delete button. No harm, no foul.

However, keep going, and it's almost guaranteed that you'll end up feeling like a tax "expert" before you've hit Submit.

Even with complicated forms, the most time you'll spend on filing your taxes with an e-filing program is about an hour ... to quickly send your tax form through cyberspace to the IRS.

Another advantage to e-filing? Tax refund checks are returned more quickly, meaning more money in your pocket much sooner than filing hard copy returns.

Be Careful of Those Storefront Tax Preparers

Although some tax preparers really know what they're doing, once inside the door it's the luck of the draw as to whether you'll actually be assigned to a compentent preparer. Many are not professionals, but are quickly trained for the tax season much like fast-food workers manning the express counter.

For fees reaching into the hundreds of dollars, they will basically ask you the same questions you can fill-in yourself. Some may suggest shady deductions in effort to "help" you. Others may hurriedly mis-type your address or social security number, raising red flags at the IRS.

If the IRS later questions you about your return, you may end up paying extra tax or possible penalties for any mistakes or questionable deductions. Not to mention the possiblity of your being called in for a - gasp - complete IRS audit. By that time, the tax preparer's storefront doors have been closed for the season, and you're on your own.

Keep Those Receipts

If you want to claim a deduction the most important part, say the experts is : receipts, receipts, receipts.

Make it a habit to get a receipt for every purchase (no matter how trivial you think it is at the moment) so when tax season comes around you can pick and choose among those that apply as legitimate deductions.

File your receipts away now, or just keep them in an old shoe box to sort out later. In the event of a tax audit, you'll at least have them on hand as black-and-white proof of money spent on the deductions you've claimed.

Again, it's the mantra of of saavy tax filers everywhere who make it a habit of asking the following question throughout the year, and everywhere they go.

Jack-O-Lanterns Story

Irish children used to carve out potatoes or turnips and light them for their Halloween gatherings. They commemorated Jack, a shifty Irish villain so wicked that neither God nor the Devil wanted him. Rejected by both the sacred and profane, he wandered the world endlessly looking for a place to rest, his only warmth a glittering candle in a rotten turnip.

Check This out Top selling product of Jack-O-Lanterns

The way to make a Jack O' Lantern out of a Pumpkin is to cut off the top and stem, clean out the interior and seeds, hollow out the shell and decorativley carve the pumpkin, usually with shapes of funny or scary looking faces. More recently, different complex designs may be carved by using stencils and special carving instruments. Traditionally a real candle, either a votive candle or tea light is placed inside the Jack O' Lantern to light it up like a Lantern and cast erie shadows all about during Halloween season. If real candles are used, they should never be unsupervised, and a chimney should be carved into the lid to let heat escape.

The term Jack-O-Lantern actually means Night Watchman or Man with a Lantern, with the earliest use in Newfoundland in the mid-17th century, regarding the will-o'-the-wisp type phenomena, rather than a carved Jack O' Lantern. Will O The Wisp refers to ghostly lights that hover over damp ground or bogs in still air during twilight or at night, which looks like a flickering lamp and seems to go away when approached. There are scientific possiblilities for this, but folklore says that it is mischievous spirits of the dead or supernatural beings who try to lead travellers astray, also know as "Corpse Candles" , "Hobby Lanterns", or "Jacky Lanterns". In America, the Carved Pumpkin was also long associated with the harvest season even before it became a popular Halloween emblem. Now the Jack O' Lantern has become one of the most beloved Halloween Icons, with children and adults alike enjoying carving out their Jack O' Lanterns in the most simple and intricate designs.

Trick or Treating - History and Origin

Trick or Treating came from All Soul’s Day(also known as Hallows Eve) parades in early England. The poor citizens of England would line up on the sides of the street as the richer members of the community paraded by and threw them pastries called soul cakes. The starving citizens would accept these cakes in exchange for praying for the richer class’s dead family members.

Indian scientist spots UFO

When a team of geologists went on an expedition to the Himalayas, they were hardly prepared for an encounter of a different kind. A scientist of the ISRO's Space Application Centre here, who was part of the team, now claims that the team members sighted an unidentified object at 14,500 feet that "could be a UFO." ISRO is now studying photographs of the 'object' taken by team members.

Anil Kulkarni, a marine and water resources scientist at SAC, said it could also be an object used for spying.

Members of the team, which also had professors from different universities and students, were on a mission to study the Samudra Tapu glacier.

Kulkarni says he is aware of some countries reportedly using spying devices like satellites, balloons and even flying objects. "We can confirm whether it is an object from outer space or a spying device only after the photos are analysed by experts and the other team members give their versions."

"It was around 6.45 am when one of the team members saw a balloon-like white object. He warned others mistaking it for a yeti. When we went closer, it was something different."

Paper Planes MIA With Lyrics

Artist:- Mathangi Maya Arulpragasam (born July 17, 1977) better known by her stage name M.I.A., is a British songwriter, record producer, vocalist and visual artist of Sri Lankan Tamil descent.

Lyrics

I fly like paper, get high like planes
If you catch me at the border I got visas in my name
If you come around here, I make 'em all day
I get one down in a second if you wait

Sometimes I think sitting on trains
Every stop I get to I'm clocking that game
Everyone's a winner now we're making that fame
Bonafide hustler making my name

All I wanna do is (BANG BANG BANG BANG!)
And (KKKAAAA CHING!)
And take your money

Pirate skulls and bones
Sticks and stones and weed and bongs
Running when we hit 'em
Lethal poison through their system

No one on the corner has swag like us
Hit me on my burner prepaid wireless
We pack and deliver like UPS trucks
Already going hell just pumping that gas

All I wanna do is (BANG BANG BANG BANG!)
And (KKKAAAA CHING!)
And take your money

M.I.A.
Third world democracy
Yeah, I got more records than the K.G.B.
So, uh, no funny business

Some some some I some I murder
Some I some I let go
Some some some I some I murder
Some I some I let go

World's fastest bowl / bowler Cricket

World's fastest bowl / bowler

Pakistani bowler Shoaib Akhtar has broken cricket's equivalent of the four-minute mile, sending down a 161kmh (100.04mph) delivery. The ICC is yet to endorse the record, which breaks Jeff Thomson's longstanding record.

Akhtar's achievement was cast into doubt because the broadcaster's speed gun, developed by Electronic Development House, was out of order. The 100mph delivery was measured on a device supplied by a Lahore hi-tech company, Cybernet.

It is easy enough to be friendly to one's friends. But to befriend the one who regards himself as your enemy is the quintessence of true religion. The other is mere business. -- Mahatma Gandhi

One of the surest evidences of friendship that one individual can display to another is telling him gently of a fault. If any other can excel it, it is listening to such a disclosure with gratitude, and amending the error.-- Edward Bulwer-Lytton

A true friend is one who overlooks your failures and tolerates your success!-- Doug Larson

A true friend is someone who is there for you when he'd rather be anywhere else. -- Len Wein

Cute , Cool and Sweet Friendship Quotes

Most people walk in and out of you life. But only friends leave footprints in your heart.

Love starts with a smile, grows with a kiss, and ends with a tear.

Don't cry over anyone who won't cry over you.

Good friends are hard to find, harder to leave, and impossible to forget.

You can only go as far as you push.

Actions speak louder than words.

The hardest thing to do is watch the one you love, love somebody else.

Don't let the past hold you back; you're missing the good stuff.

Life's short. If you don't look around once in a while, you might miss it.

A best friend is like a four leaf clover: hard to find and lucky to have.

If you think that the world means nothing, think again. You might mean the world to someone else.

When it hurts to look back, and you're scared to look ahead, you can look beside you and your best friend will be there

True friendship never ends.

Friends are forever.
Good friends are like stars....You don't always see them, but you know they are always there.

Don't frown. You never know who is falling in love with your smile.

What do you do when the only person who can make you stop crying is the person who made you cry?

NOBODY IS PERFECT UNTIL YOU FALL IN LOVE WITH THEM. (Isn't that the truth?)

Everything is okay in the end. If it's not okay, then it's not the end.

Getting-a-Millionaire's-Mindset

http://finance.yahoo.com/banking-budgeting/article/105624/Getting-a-Millionaire's-Mindset

Let's face it; we all don't make millions of dollars a year, and the odds are that most of us won't receive a large windfall inheritance either. However, that doesn't mean that we can't build sizeable wealth — it'll just take some time. If you're young, time is on your side and retiring a millionaire is achievable. Read on for some tips on how to increase your savings and work toward this goal.

Stop Senseless Spending

Unfortunately, people have a habit of spending their hard-earned cash on goods and services that they don't need. Even relatively small expenses, such as indulging in a gourmet coffee from a premium coffee shop every morning, can really add up — and decrease the amount of money you can save. Larger expenses on luxury items also prevent many people from putting money into savings each month.

That said, it's important to realize that it's usually not just one item or one habit that must be cut out in order to accumulate sizable wealth (although it may be). Usually, in order to become wealthy one must adopt a disciplined lifestyle and budget. This means that people who are looking to build their nest eggs need to make sacrifices somewhere — this may mean eating out less frequently, using public transportation to get to work and/or cutting back on extra, unnecessary expenses.

This doesn't mean that you shouldn't go out and have fun, but you should try to do things in moderation — and set a budget if you hope to save money. Fortunately, particularly if you start saving young, saving up a sizeable nest egg only requires a few minor (and relatively painless) adjustments to your spending habits.

Fund Retirement Plans ASAP

When individuals earn money, their first responsibility is to pay current expenses such as the rent or mortgage expenses, food and other necessities. Once these expenses have been covered, the next step should be to fund a retirement plan or some other tax-advantaged vehicle.

Unfortunately, retirement planning is an afterthought for many young people. Here's why it shouldn't be: funding a 401(k) and/or a IRA early on in life means you can contribute less money overall and actually end up with significantly more in the end than someone who put in much more money but started later.

How much difference will funding a vehicle such as a Roth IRA early on in life make?

If you're 23 years old and deposit $3,000 per year (that's only $250 each month!) in a Roth IRA earning an 8% average annual return, you will have saved $985,749 by the time you are 65 years old due to the power of compounding. If you make a few extra contributions, it's clear that a $1 million goal is well within reach. Also keep in mind that this is mostly interest — your $3,000 contributions only add up to $126,000.

Now, suppose that you wait an additional 10 years to start contributing. You have a better job and you know you've lost some time, so you contribute $5,000 per year. You get the same 8% return and you aim to retire at 65. When you reach age 65, you will have saved $724,753. That's still a sizeable fund, but you had to contribute $160,000 just to get there — and it's nowhere near the $985,749 you could've had for paying much less.

Improve Tax Awareness

Sometimes, individuals think that doing their own taxes will save them money. In some cases, they might be right. However, in other cases it may actually end up costing them money because they fail to take advantage of the many deductions available to them.

Try to become more educated as far as what types of items are deductible. You should also understand when it makes sense to move away from the standard deduction and start itemizing your return.

However, if you're not willing or able to become very well educated filing your own income tax, it may actually pay to hire some help, particularly if you are self employed, own a business or have other circumstances that complicate your tax return.

Renting Versus Buying

At some point in our lives, many of us rent a home or an apartment because we cannot afford to purchase a home, or because we aren't sure where we want to live for the longer term. And that's fine. However, renting is often not a good long-term investment because buying a home is a good way to build equity.

Unless you intend to move in a short period of time, it generally makes sense to consider putting a down payment on a home. (At least you would likely build up some equity over time and the foundation for a nest egg.)

Buying Expensive Cars

There's nothing wrong with purchasing a luxury vehicle. However, individuals who spend an inordinate amount of their incomes on a vehicle are doing themselves a disservice — especially since this asset depreciates in value so rapidly.

How rapidly does a car depreciate?

Obviously, this depends on the make, model, year and demand for the vehicle, but a general rule is that a new car loses 15-20% of its value per year. So, a two-year old car will be worth 80-85% of its purchase price; a three-year old car will be worth 80-85% of its two-year-old value.

In short, especially when you are young, consider buying something practical and dependable that has low monthly payments — or that you can pay for in cash. In the long run, this will mean you'll have more money to put toward your savings — an asset that will appreciate, rather than depreciate like your car.

Don't Sell Yourself Short

Some individuals are extremely loyal to their employers and will stay with them for years without seeing their incomes take a jump. This can be a mistake, as increasing your income is an excellent way to boost your rate of saving.

Always keep your eye out for other opportunities and try not to sell yourself short. Work hard and find an employer who will compensate you for your work ethic, skills and experience.

Bottom Line

You don't have to win the lottery to see seven figures in your bank account. For most people, the only way to achieve this is to save it. You don't have to live like a pauper to build an adequate nest egg and retire comfortably. If you start early, spend wisely and save diligently, your million-dollar dreams are well within reach.
