Sanjaya: `I'm not just a musician'

Sanjaya: `I'm not just a musician': "Sanjaya: `I'm not just a musician'"

Sanjaya: `I'm not just a musician'04/23/2007 3:37 PM, APSanjaya Malakar is so famous, he can't walk anywhere without getting noticed.
"It's really weird. I mean, I'm just Sanjaya from Seattle," the 17-year-old "American Idol" cast-off said Monday on "Live With Regis and Kelly."
"It's paparazzi (who) get at you," he said, "and fans come up and try to give you hugs and get autographs. I would love to just be able to hug everyone and give autographs and take pictures, but you can't."
Malakar was voted off the Fox talent competition last week after a long and unlikely run in which he outlasted better singers and captivated millions of TV viewers with his goofy charm and ever-changing hairdos.
He wants to be a triple threat: singer, actor and model.
"Like, I really — what I want to do is experience the whole entertainment business because, I mean, I'm not just a musician, I'm an entertainer," Malakar said.
Fresh off "American Idol," the lanky teen/media It Boy is in demand. Another stop on his post-show publicity tour was David Letterman's "Late Show" on CBS, where Malakar was to read the "Top Ten" list Monday night.
On Saturday, he attended a White House correspondents' dinner in Washington as a guest of People magazine.
"It was really weird because the governor of New York came up to me and said, `I'm a fan, I vote,'" Malakar said.
"That's fantastic," said Kelly Ripa, co-host of the syndicated daytime talk show.
"It was really weird," Malakar said.

Study: Gender gap hits after graduation, widens later - Apr. 23, 2007

Study: Gender gap hits after graduation, widens later - Apr. 23, 2007: "On payday, it's still a man's world"

On payday, it's still a man's world
Study: Females earn 80 percent of what men earn one year after graduating from college; falls to 69 percent 10 years later.
April 23 2007: 9:11 AM EDT
NEW YORK (Reuters) -- A dramatic pay gap emerges between women and men in America the year after they graduate from college and widens over the ensuing decade, according to research released on Monday.
One year out of college, women working full time earn 80 percent of what men earn, according to the study by the American Association of University Women Educational Foundation, based in Washington

Ten years later, women earn 69 percent as much as men earn, it said.
Even as the study accounted for such factors as the number of hours worked, occupations or parenthood, the gap persisted, researchers said.
"If a woman and a man make the same choices, will they receive the same pay?" the study asked. "The answer is no.
"These unexplained gaps are evidence of discrimination, which remains a serious problem for women in the work force."
Specifically, about one-quarter of the pay gap is attributable to gender - 5 percent one year after graduation and 12 percent 10 years after graduation, it said.
One year out of college, men and women should arguably be the least likely to show a gender pay gap, the study said, since neither tend to be parents yet and they enter the work force without significant experience.
"It surprised me that it was already apparent one year out of college, and that it widens over the first 10 years," Catherine Hill, AAUW director of research, told Reuters.
The choice of fields of concentration in college was a significant factor found to make a difference in pay, the study found.
10 Best-paid executives: They're all men
Female students tended to study areas with lower pay, such as education, health and psychology, while male students dominated higher-paying fields such as engineering, mathematics and physical sciences, it said.
Even so, one year after graduation, a pay gap turned up between women and men who studied the same fields.
In education, women earn 95 percent as much as their male colleagues earn, while in math, women earn 76 percent as much as men earn, the study showed.
While in college, the study showed, women outperformed men academically, and their grade point averages were higher in every college major.
Parenthood affected men and women in vividly different ways. The study showed mothers more likely than fathers, or other women, to work part time or take leaves.
Among women who graduated from college in 1992-93, more than one-fifth of mothers were out of the work force a decade later, and another 17 percent were working part time, it said.
In the same class, less than 2 percent of fathers were out of the work force in 2003, and less than 2 percent were working part time, it said.
The study, entitled "Behind the Pay Gap," used data from the U.S. Department of Education. It analyzed some 9,000 college graduates from 1992-93 and more than 10,000 from 1999-2000.

NEW YORK (AFP) - It's a sport only for the fleet of thumb with a ruthless dedication to punctuation.
And while competitive text messaging may not have quite gained Olympic status, the hundreds of mostly teenagers who took part in the US championships in New York Saturday could think of little but the 25,000-dollar prize money.
Some 250 challengers shunned the warmest day of the year for a dark ballroom where they battled it out for a chance to take on the reigning West Coast champion, 21-year-old Eli Tirosh, for the title of US Texting Champion.
Contestants had to stand with their hands behind their backs until a bell sounded and a message appeared on an overhead screen. The winner was judged on whoever's message -- checked for exact punctuation -- reached the judges first.
The text tests ranged from "faster than a speeding bullet..." and "what we do in life echoes in eternity" to the less poetic "OMG, nd 2 talk asap," which for those over 30 means "Oh my God, need to talk as soon as possible."
The 250 competitors were quickly whittled down to eight semi finalists, one of whom, Anne Finn, 24, of Allegany, New York, said the pressure was too much.
"It was so nerve wracking. My hands started to shake. I couldn't get my apostrophe," she said.
In the end, 13-year-old Morgan Pozgar faced off against Michael "Cheeser" Nguyen in the east coast final, with Pozgar slipping past her challenger to face west coast champion Tirosh, a law student from Los Angeles.
"I just wasn't fast enough," said Nguyen, a 23-year-old engineer from Pennsylvania. Asked how it felt to take second place, he was clearly disappointed: "I just got beaten by a teenage girl, but you know."
Tirosh, who said she practiced with her friend and trainer Amy, who threw out random words or symbols and even motivational Buddhist quotes, admitted to feeling a certain pressure due to the home side advantage.
Wearing a satin boxing robe before her championship bout against Pozgar, she said success would come down to who could marry lightning speed and accuracy.
"It's all about the thumbwork," she said. "It's about balance." She said she owed her success to relaxation and deep breathing.
So dedicated is she to the art of the text message that Tirosh apparently unwittingly uses abbreviations such as BTW (by the way), TTYL (talk to you later) and LOL (laughing out loud) in her normal speech.
Pozgar said she trained by sending on average 8,000 text messages a month to her friends -- an astonishing rate of one every five and a half minutes. She pays 10 dollars a month for an unlimited text package on her cell phone.
In a tense championship final, Tirosh seemed to have won after putting down her phone first, only for judges to rule she had made a 15,000-dollar typo in the lyrics to Mary Poppins song "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious."
Pozgar, who says she wants to work in fashion when she's older, had no hesitation about how to spend her prize money -- 10,000 dollars for the east coast championship and a further 15,000 dollars for the national award.
She said she was going to hit the stores in New York City.
Her mother Shannon, who had driven five hours into New York from Pennsylvania on Saturday morning for the event, said she would let Morgan spend some of the money but was eyeing the rest for her college fund.
Asked if she would describe herself as a geek, Pozgar rolled her eyes and said no. Her brother, who had separately won a television, seemed to disagree.

BBC NEWS South Asia India commercial rocket takes off: "India commercial rocket takes off "

India commercial rocket takes off

The rocket took off under a clear blue skyIndia's first commercial rocket has been launched into space.
The rocket, a Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV), took off from the Sriharikota base in southern India at 1530 Indian time (1000 GMT).
It is carrying a 352kg Italian satellite which will gather information about the origins of the universe, the AFP news agency reports.
India's space programme includes an unmanned mission to the Moon which is due to take place next year.
'Twenty-three minutes'
The BBC's Sanjoy Majumder in Delhi says that scientists at India's space centre broke out into spontaneous applause as the rocket lifted off into a clear blue sky.
He says that India has been working for some time on developing a low-cost launch system which could take on more established players around the world.
Reports say that India is being paid $11m to launch the Italian satellite.
The rocket was due to send the satellite into orbit 23 minutes after takeoff.
The PSLV model rocket was first launched in 1994. It puts satellites into orbits where they cross above the earth's poles.
At present, the PSLV rocket only has the capability of carrying relatively lighter loads of under 1,000 kilograms.
But officials at India's space programme are hoping that can change with time.

Vienna's Sacher-Torte - recipe still secret 175 years on - Yahoo! News: "Vienna's Sacher-Torte - recipe still secret 175 years on "

by Gabrielle Grenz Sun Apr 22, 2:37 AM ET
VIENNA (AFP) - What may be the world's most celebrated chocolate cake, Vienna's Sacher-Torte, is feting 175 years since its creator produced a recipe that still remains as closely guarded as a state secret.
"Aside from me, only my pastry chef and his assistant know the recipe, which is kept in a safe," said Elisabeth Gurtler, the dynamic 57-year-old businesswoman who took over the reins of the Hotel Sacher group in 1990, following the death of her husband.
"All that I can say is that we use butter, sugar, eggs, flour, chocolate and jam," she said coyly, adding that ingredients are "all natural" and all from Austria -- except for the chocolate that comes from Belgium and Germany.
The story started in 1832 when the Austrian chancellor at the time, Count Klemens Wenzel von Metternich, asked for a new desert that would impress his guests. His requirement: "don´t make me look a fool tonight!"
When the master chef took ill, a 16-year-old apprentice, Franz Sacher, was entrusted with the task. "He came up with a recipe that would make his job easier," said Gurtler.
The demands of Metternich's daily banquets meant that large quantities of desserts had to be prepared in advance - in the days when there were no refrigerators and no preservatives.
"Even then, we could make Sacher-Torte that would keep for at least a fortnight," said Gurtler.
The dessert consists of two layers of dense chocolate cake with a fine spreading of apricot jam in between. Rich, dark chocolate icing coats the top and sides.
From the few details offered by pastry chef Alfred Buxbaum, it seems the icing makes all the difference. "I use three types of chocolate and we work with about 2,000 litres (quarts) of liquid chocolate on hand at all times," he said, adding he'll be slapped with a "six-figure fine if I say more."
Buxbaum and his partner are the only ones who know the exact proportions for the icing.
Thanks to the success of Franz' creation, his son Eduard opened the Hotel Sacher behind the Viennese opera house in 1876 - not only a showcase for the city's best-known culinary speciality but a landmark in its own right whose notable guests once included John Lennon and Yoko Ono who gave one of their "bed-in" press conferences here on their 1969 peace tour.
Today the Sacher group owns four five-star hotels and produces 360,000 cakes a year, though only the 13 pastry chefs in Vienna are allowed to whip up the "Original Sacher-Torte," now a registered trademark.
Despite others' attempts to tap into the cake's fame, the Sacher group, which was bought by the Gurtler family in 1934, "has won every single copyright infringement case ever brought to trial," 40 to date, according to Gurtler.
The latest incident occurred this month when Irene Sacher, the great-great-granddaughter of Franz Sacher, published what she asserted to be the original recipe in the Austrian newspaper, Kurier.
Gurtler remains unperturbed. "There is only one original Sacher-Torte," she said. "In fact, this is going to be our new advertising slogan."
"No one ever knew the recipe for Coca-Cola and for us it is the same thing."
She also refuses to disclose the company's turnover, saying only one-third of annual production is sold abroad with 40 percent going to neighboring Germany, a hefty 18 percent to the United States and four percent as far away as Japan. Britain also imports seven percent and France five.
In 1998, the Sacher-Torte even made it into the Guinness World Records when Hotel Sacher produced a cake measuring 2.5 metres (just over eight feet) in diameter.

An Indian car - Tata Motors -The Next People Car

An Indian car may soon earn a parking place in history alongside Ford's Model T, Volkswagen's Beetle and the British Motor Corp.'s Mini, all of which put a set of wheels within reach of millions of customers after they rolled onto the scene. Tata Motors is developing a car it aims to sell for about $2,500--the cheapest, by far, ever made.
There is a lot riding on its small wheels. If the yet-to-be-named car is a success when it goes on sale next year, it would herald the emergence of Tata Motors on the global auto scene, mark the advent of India as a global center for small-car production and represent a victory for those who advocate making cheap goods for potential customers at the "bottom of the pyramid" in emerging markets. Most of all, it would give millions of people now relegated to lesser means of transportation the chance to drive cars.

Sanjaya Malakar out of American Idol -World Buzz-Entertainment-NEWS-The Times of India

NEW YORK: Sanjaya Malakar, the under-talented but unflappable singer who horrified and captivated millions in his improbable American Idol run, was finally voted out of the singing competition TV show. When the result was announced on Wednesday night, Malakar wiped away tears and got a big hug from LaKisha Jones, the next lowest vote-getter. "I'm fine," he told Ryan Seacrest. "It was an amazing experience." "I can promise you: We won't soon forget you," Seacrest replied. Malakar then performed one last song, Something To Talk About. Putting his own twist on the song, the 17-year-old known for his pretty looks and ever-changing hairstyles ad-libbed: "Let's give them something to talk about other than hair." Malakar was routinely savaged by Cowell as he developed into one of the weakest, most awkward Idol finalists ever. Still, the gangly teen managed to outlast better singers by cultivating an unlikely fan base that helped him survive round after round of viewer elimination. Though his breathy, childlike singing voice paled in comparison with other finalists, his ability to stand out kept him in the competition. He consistently delivered the season's most talked-about performances, even daring to sport a ponytail mohawk that added pizazz to an otherwise tepid rendition of No Doubt's "Bathwater." That, of course, wound up fodder for watercooler discussion on G-rated morning programs and smart-alecky websites, stoking suspicion that Malakar was self-consciously manipulating the media to carve a place in American Idol history. Many had predicted that he would make it all the way to May finale. Among Malakar's supporters, radio jockey Howard Stern and the website VotefortheWorst.com, which has long promoted the show's tone-deaf candidates. (Previous targets include surly Scott Savol and sweet-natured Kevin Covais. Cult superstar William Hung never even made it to Hollywood.) Malakar also had the backing of friends and family in his home state of Washington. "He's very handsome. That's most of it," marvelled his friend Pat Wright, a gospel choir director in Seattle. "He's a teenager, and young girls and guys really like him." Malakar seemed buoyed by his widespread fame. "Welcome to the universe of Sanjaya!" He proudly proclaimed on a recent telecast, following a backhanded compliment from an exasperated Cowell. Indeed, after panning another of Malakar's performances, Cowell threw up his arms and said there was nothing he could say to prevent people from voting for the oddball-turned-national phenomenon. But, in the end, Malakar could not win enough votes to join the ranks of Taylor Hicks, Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood. He will, however, live forever on YouTube.

First-ever 'sex theme park' in UK-Rest of World-World-NEWS-The Times of India

First-ever 'sex theme park' in UK-Rest of World-World-NEWS-The Times of India: "First-ever 'sex theme park' in UK"

LONDON: Now, you can enjoy a spankometer, an orgasm tunnel and a giant wall of willies at the world’s first ever "sex theme park", opening on April 18 in London. It’s full of high-tech interactive attractions, including a stripping masterclass, a voyeur’s peep wall and a video display about the ins and outs of oral sex. In addition to this, the adults-only Amora Academy of Sex and Relationships has huge screens all around which show couples making out in all sorts of scenarios — in flats, in threes and in cars. Two life-size naked dummies, which are placed in the first of Amora’s seven zones, are meant to teach people how to be better in the bedroom. Another set of dummies are designed to coach people to search for the G-spot. Another attraction at the theme park is a wide range of sex toys such as fake boobs, fake testicle and vibrators hooked up to a power drill. Around the corner, another set of dummies await with the inner workings of their privates on show so you can search for the G-spot. To get an orgasm, people head to the Amorgasm tunnel where real-life screaming orgasms are played. TVs on the walls, show all stages of sex with information and funny facts around them. At its pinnacle, a huge screen shows footage of the faces of men and women at the point of orgasm. Another interactive game gives the people a chance to pick and choose a sexual position from a touch-screen list. Apart from sex and nudity, Amora is also has an educational edge with an hour dedicated to sexual health. “We want people to go away thinking wow — I’ve really learnt something,” The Sun quoted Sarah Brewer, Amora’s director, as saying. “It’s a celebration of sexuality — it’s clean sex if you like. It’s not sleazy or pornographic. Some of it is quite explicit — but it’s as explicit as it needs to be. It’s about sex as it is now and tomorrow. It’s contemporary and exciting,” she said. Brewer also stressed on the fact that it would be women who will force their partners to visit Amora. “I think it will be women who make the decision to come here — and bring along their partners and friends. If guys are embarrassed by this sort of thing, they’re exactly the kind of guys that need to come here. Sex shouldn’t be embarrassing.”

'Indians won't mind experiment in sex'-India-NEWS-The Times of India

NEW DELHI: India's Adams and Eves are a satisfied lot with their sex lives -- in fact the third most satisfied to be precise compared to their global counterparts. According to the Durex Global Sexual Wellbeing Survey, in the satisfaction stakes, Indians come third with 61 per cent of respondents saying they were fully satisfied with their sex lives, compared to a mere 44 per cent worldwide. Nigerians come up as the most satisfied at 67 per cent, followed by Mexicans at 63 per cent. In contrast, the Japanese at 15 per cent are the least fulfilled. The study also revealed that Indians on average have sex 130 times a year, considerably more than the global average of 103. The Greeks, however, take the cake with 164 times a year, with Brazilians a close second at 145 times, followed by the Polish and the Russians at 143 times. The survey reveals majority of Indian women are more satisfied with their sexual lives compared to their counterparts. "The survey highlights how vital it is for everyone, especially men, to not only consider their sexual health but to talk to their doctor about solving problems to improve their sex life and that of their partner," sexual health expert Kevan Wylie said. The Durex Global Sexual Wellbeing Survey collected responses from 26,032 people across 26 countries.

Sanju, on drugs, charity and Abhiwarya
Sanjay Dutt and Boman Irani appeared on KBC with Shah Rukh Khan a few weeks back. Sanjay Dutt donated a million rupees from his winnings to a charity working for the betterment of kids suffering from drug abuse.
In a candid interview with Girish Rao, Sanjay talks about his spiritual side, drugs, and even the Abhishek-Aishwarya wedding. Excerpts:
Sanju, how did it strike you that the amount you had won while playing KBC should be split? Why did you choose that particular NGO, Support?
Look, even I was into drugs, so I can well imagine the trauma these kids go through. They don't have any support from any quarter, be it in terms of finance or even in terms of any treatment center for them. It was only through my sister Priya that I met Sujata from the Support NGO. And I was so touched just to see these kids recovering from drugs, that I felt I needed to donate something for their betterment. And the best way was through KBC. And here I am donating the money to these kids.

SI.com - Scorecard Daily - NFL: Don't expect Dallas to cut ties with T.O. - Thursday April 12, 2007 10:14AM

Even if Dallas drafts a receiver in the first round, Terrell Owens isn't going anywhere, at least until the end of this season. That's because history has shown most rookie receivers don't make much of an impact. The Cowboys don't want to give up on a talent like T.O. -- even if he does a lot of things that get on their nerves -- until they have an adequate replacement. -- Dallas Morning News
Don't be shocked if Dallas drafts another linebacker-defensive end in the first round because they need another pass-rusher for the 3-4 defense. It wouldn't be surprising if Rob Carpenter started at linebacker and Greg Ellis was used primarily in pass-rushing situations. -- Dallas Morning News

Is this Ash-Abhishek's new home?: "Is this Ash-Abhishek's new home?"

It is not known if this building on the left, NaiVedya, will be the home of the soon-to-be-wed Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan, but there may be reason to believe it is.
NaiVedya, a rather old structure until three years ago, is undergoing brisk renovation.
Located at Carter Road in the suburban area of Bandra, Mumbai, the building is a 10-minute drive from Ash's current home on the 12th floor of the La Mer building, where Sachin Tendulkar also lives.
Bandra's Star Homes
When photographer Rajesh Karkera was about to shoot a picture of the building, the watchman said, "Please don't shoot a photograph; it does not belong to Abhishek Bachchan."
A strange comment considering we had not even asked who the building belonged to.
Further enquiries revealed the watchman was tired of answering questions if the building belonged to the Guru star. He indicated it was owned by someone settled abroad.
"I don't know who the owner is except that it is not Abhishek Bachchan," the watchman said.

Sanjaya Malakar enters last seven in American Idol-World Buzz-Entertainment-NEWS-The Times of India

Sanjaya enters last seven in American Idol-World Buzz-Entertainment-NEWS-The Times of India: "Sanjaya enters last seven in American Idol"
WASHINGTON/NEW YORK: Indian American teen wonder Sanjaya Malakar comfortably survived another elimination round on the hit US show American Idol after singing a Latino number. His performance was such that even the judge Simon Cowell, so far hostile to him, said it "wasn't horrible." Malakar, who in the words of The Washington Post's TV columnist has “completely taken over” the American Idol singing competition, was among the five declared "safe" in Wednesday night's results round that left seven in the fray. Even before he sang on Tuesday night, Malakar, the focus of YouTube parodies and the site Votefortheworst.com, got a rave review from megastar Jennifer Lopez and then a rare, if reluctant, compliment from judge Simon Cowell. Sprouting Marc Anthonyesque facial hair in honour of J Lo's appearance as guest "mentor," he left her utterly smitten. "He chose a beautiful Spanish song and I have to tell you, he really impressed me," said Jennifer Lopez. J Lo gushed to the camera after rehearsing Besame Mucho with Sanjaya. "I love Sanjaya," she giggled, adding, "I think Simon might be impressed." "I have to tell you he really, really impressed me," said Lopez as his ballad, sung in Spanish, hushed the excited crowd. "I couldn't understand a word of it, you sang like a 14-year-old and, I'm going to hate myself for this, it wasn't horrible," said the judge Cowell, who is usually very harsh on Sanjaya's singing aspirations. "You are one of the smartest contestants we've ever had," a mesmerised Randy Jackson told Sanjaya, who has an Indian father and an Italian mother. "Smooth. It was nice – very, very nice," said another judge Paula Abdul.

Welcome to Yahoo!

Y! India Movies - Liz-Arun face court for breaking Hindu customs

Y! India Movies - Liz-Arun face court for breaking Hindu customs: "Liz-Arun face court for breaking Hindu customs "

London, April 10 (IANS) A new twist has been added to the row over the Liz Hurley-Arun Nayar wedding with news that a legal case has been initiated against them on the ground that their marriage in Rajasthan broke with Hindu customs.
Many British Asians here likened the post-marriage developments to popular Indian television serials -- only in this case the 'villain' is seen to be Vinod Nayar, Liz's father-in-law.
Vinod Nayar, who evoked a strong reaction from Liz about his recent comments against her and for cutting of all ties with Arun, is reported to be willing to testify against the couple in the legal case.
Vinod had accused Liz of pandering to commercial interests of Hello! magazine, which had signed a 2 million pounds deal with the couple for exclusive access to the March wedding. The deal is likely to be used as evidence against the couple, reports here say.
The Daily Mail quoted prosecuting lawyer H.M. Saraswat as saying Tuesday: 'An arrest warrant could be issued for Arun and Liz as soon as the prosecution has made its case - either because they are summoned to give evidence or they have been found guilty.
'He (Vinod) contacted me and wants to get some help regarding this case. He wants to disclose some important facts. Vinod Nayar told me that when Arun Nayar and Liz Hurley came to the marriage mandap (marriage place), Arun Nayar left his footwear outside the mandap but Liz Hurley refused to remove her footwear.
'When we worship we must remove our shoes because we pray to god and at that time shoes should be removed. Our intention is to prove that the procedures adopted by both the accused for their marriage is against our Hindu rites.
'We have our own religious beliefs, including that the bride and bridegroom must behave soberly, and in this case they have both taken drinks. Pictures of them kissing in Hello! magazine is against our culture also. We are using the Hello! pictures to prove our case.'
The case is reported to be based on section 295 A of the Indian Penal code, which deals with the intention to outrage the feelings of Hindus by insulting their religious and ritualistic beliefs.
According to Saraswat, Vinod Nayar has offered to testify against the couple with written evidence. Among the complaints against the newly-weds are that they drank alcohol before the marriage. It is also alleged that Liz Hurley showed off excess flesh with her choice of attire.
Saraswat added: 'In our religion the bride must wear the proper dress covering her body. In this case Liz Hurley shows her body, which is against our culture and against our beliefs.'
In an earlier court hearing, Saraswat reportedly accused the couple of 'utilising the Hindu marriage to spread Christianity'.
He told a court in Jodhpur: 'This is the first case in India where a couple already married has gone through another marriage. The couple has been, through their act, trying to canvass for the spread of Christianity and utilising the Hindu marriage they have hurt the people's sentiments.'

New Delhi, April 10 (IANS) Controversies seem to be pursuing the embattled Indian cricket team. Sachin Tendulkar has courted the latest. He cut a cake in the shape and colour of the national flag in the West Indies.
Tendulkar cut the cake at a party hosted by a non-resident Indian based in Jamaica March 10, seven days before India played their first World Cup match against Bangladesh and shockingly lost.
HeadlinesIndia.com has posted photographs, along with a write-up, of Tendulkar ready to cut a cake that has the three colours of the Indian national flag with Ashok Chakra in the middle.
Some other Indian players are seen standing among the guests, including Indian High Commissioner to Jamaica K.L. Agrawal, applauding as Tendulkar readies to cut the cake.
Among the players, Zaheer Khan, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Ajit Agarkar and Harbhajan Singh, are visible in the photographs posted on the website.
The website said that cutting of a cake bearing the colours of the Indian national flag was an insult under the Prevention of Insults to National Honour (Amendment) Act, 2003.
India beat minnows Bermuda, but crucially lost to Bangladesh and Sri Lanka to crash out in the first round of the World Cup.

Sanjaya's `Idol' run not India's fault - Yahoo! News

Sanjaya's `Idol' run not India's fault - Yahoo! News: "Sanjaya's `Idol' run not India's fault "

NEW DELHI - So much for the Indian Call Center Theory: Under-talented singer Sanjaya Malakar's unlikely wave of "American Idol" support apparently isn't coming from his father's homeland.

Indians are usually attuned to the successes of their compatriots abroad. But apart from a few brief newspaper articles, at least one short TV news segment and a few blog mentions, the reedy 17-year-old with the unsteady voice is a virtual unknown here.
One reason is that the show is broadcast a day late in India, and on an English-language channel that attracts relatively few viewers in this country of 1.1 billion.
"He's also an object of ridicule," said Amit Varma, who runs the popular India Uncut blog.
Malakar's success with viewers, who vote by phone or text message for their favorite performers, has come despite withering criticism from the three "Idol" judges on New Corp.'s hit Fox network show. The irascible Simon Cowell has even threatened to quit if the native of Federal Way, Wash., wins the contest.
Malakar survived elimination Wednesday night to make it to the final eight. If he can hold on for a few more weeks, he might see his fame spread here, Varma said.
"Even if the guy's really an American, it will be projected by the media here as an Indian doing well in the world," he said. "They'll make a big deal about it."
As for the theory that Indian call center operators are phoning in votes for Malakar: Most workers have calls automatically dialed for them by computers. They couldn't even call next door if they wanted to.

Fishermen catch big, old Alaska rockfish - Yahoo! News: "Fishermen catch big, old Alaska rockfish "

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - A commercial fishing boat hauled in what may have been one of the oldest creatures in Alaska — a giant rockfish estimated to be about a century old.

The 44-inch, 60-pound female shortraker rockfish was caught last month by the catcher-processor Kodiak Enterprise as it trawled for pollock 2,100 feet below the surface, south of the Pribilof Islands in the Bering Sea.
The Seattle-based vessel, owned by Trident Seafoods, pulled up an estimated 75 tons of pollock and 10 bright-orange rockfish.
Scientists at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration at the Alaska Fisheries Science Center in Seattle measured, photographed and documented the fish. They removed an ear bone, the otolith, which contains growth rings similar to rings in the trunks of trees.
They estimate the rockfish was 90 to 115 years old.
That's toward the upper end of the known age limit for shortraker rockfish, said Paul Spencer of the science center. Other estimates put the fish's maximum age at 157 years, Spencer said.
The contents of the rockfish's stomach were examined and scientists took tissue samples to measure her reproductive potential. "The belly was large," Spencer said. "The ovaries were full of developing embryos."
Scientists said the specimen is not the biggest on record. A 47-inch shortraker rockfish was recorded, according to the book "Fishes of Alaska."

First ever mango festival in Washington

First ever mango festival in Washington: "First ever mango festival in Washington"

The first-ever Indian mango-tasting festival will be held in Washington in June in the presence of the captains of Indian and American industries and top government officials thanks to the US India Business Council.
The slated festival is part of advocacy efforts by USIBC for American imports of mango from India. President George Bush during his visit to India in 2005 struck a deal with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to lift the long-standing ban on American import of mangos from India.
The Bush Administration, working through the Office of the US Trade Representative, the US Department of Commerce, and the US Department of Agriculture, is now actively clearing the way for Indian mango exports to the U.S. this harvest season.
USIBC's member-companies are spearheading the private sector lobbying effort to ensure these exports.
On Wednesday USIBC met with US Trade Representative, Ambassador Susan Schwab, to advocate for import of Indian Mangoes to the US this season.
"The possibility of mango export to the U.S. assumes commercial as well as symbolic significance, as access to the global marketplace will benefit Indian farmers and consumers, together with their American counterparts," USIBC President Ron Somers said.
The first-ever Indian mango-tasting festival this harvest season, Somers said, will be held June 27 during USIBC's 32nd anniversary 'Global India' summit in Washington.
Industry leaders participating in the event include Reliance Chairman Mukesh Ambani, Boeing Company's CEO Jim McNerney, CII Mentor Tarun Das, Wockhardt CEO and FICCI President Hari Korakiawala, Warburg Pincus President Chip Kaye, AIG Vice Chairman Frank Wisner, Lockheed Martin's President, McKinsey's Rajat Gupta, Chevron's Mike Wirth, the Cohen Group's Chairman William S. Cohen, and BGR International's President, Robert Blackwill.
Luminaries from the US and Indian governments participating include US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, US Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez, and India's Union Commerce Minister Kamal Nath.
Notably, West Bengal's Commerce Minister Nirupam Sen will lead a business delegation from Kolkata to attend the USIBC Global India Summit.
Sarod Maestro Amjad Ali Khan and his sons will grace the Washington audience by performing a sarod recital on June 26 at the Kennedy Center, highlighting the cultural ties that bind the world's two great democracies.
On the prospects for import of Indian Mangoes, Ron Somers said the USIBC will continue to advocate deeper trade between the two countries. 'We want to open new and exciting vistas for the people of both countries,' Somers said.
